Colours of beauty
When you connect the sun, beautiful sea, sandy beaches, history which tells stories from every stone in the Old Town with incredible energy and spirit of South Africa you will get a memorable festival SOUTH AFRICA IN COLOURS in Budva. This international South African festival has been held from 07-10 of July 2011.
Budva, as a centre of tourism and a city of theatre and festivals, was a very attractive place for our festival. In these few days, a large number of tourists and domestic visitors had enjoyed in great energy that was brought by South African artists for the first time in Montenegro. Through colorful festival segments such as art, culture, entertainment and crafts on few locations in Budva, visitors had the opportunity to enjoy in this outstanding cultural exchange.
Every visitor enjoyed in traditional dance, and in truly electrifying show which was brought by Caitlin, the electric violinist with her unstoppable energy. She created a special show for Montenegro audience - spectacular outdoor performance that left none indifferent.
All who were lucky enough to be in Budva at this time witnessed unusual beauty where the colours of South Africa added its beauty to the beauty of the Mediterranean – Budva city.
After this festival just one question remains unanswered and that is “Will we meet in Budva again”?
About Budva:
Budva is one of the most popular Mediterranean towns. It has around 15,000 inhabitants, and is a centre of Budva Municipality. The coastal area around Budva, called the Budvanska Riviera, is the centre of Montenegro's tourism, and is well known for its sandy beaches, diverse nightlife, and examples of Mediterranean architecture.
Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic Sea coast. By the legend, it was founded by the Kadmo (Cadmus) Agenor, son of Phoenician king Agnon.
Because of sandy beaches in and around Budva as well as its vast cultural heritage and vibrant nightlife the city is increasingly turning into the most attractive tourist destination in Montenegro which attracts more than 300.000 tourists during summer season, mostly domestic, Russian, Serbian and other Eastern European tourists.
Budva also offers many interesting manifestations. During the summer in particular, the day and night-life offers opportunities to enjoy theatre plays and performances, music events and entertainment programs.
In the close vicinity of Budva there are exclusive resorts such as town-hotel Saint Stefan and Milocher, places frequented by various celebrities as well as local businessmen and politicians.
Locally, Budva is referred to as the Montenegrin Kuwait, because of its number of millionaires compared to its small population. Following a real estate boom in 2000s, many native families sold their properties in and around Budva to foreign buyers, mostly Russians, Austrians and Italians. Once barren and undeveloped fields of steep hillsides are being sold for hundreds Euros per square meter. This resulted in a once poor fisherman's village to become a town with the most millionaires per capita in Europe, about 500 for the population of around 22,000 in whole municipality.
It’s interesting that Budva is smallest world town to host a concerts of The Rolling Stones and Madonna.
Africa Village ‘’South Africa in Colours’’ festival will be held in Budva from July 7 – 10. Opened by a big live show organized in front of the old city entrance and various programs also organized on Slovenian beach. Visitor will have a chance to experience South Africa live show also on July 8 and July 9 at 21.00 in front of the old city. Special presentations, workshops and exhibitions will be available whole day long from July 8-10 on these two locations.
